Hiking Leaf # 14: Rainy Montalban Trilogy Version Two hike
June 8 - At 10 pm, I went straight to Greenfield in Shaw because that was the proposed meet-up location for my next hiking event that was organised by Adventure-Philippines. Ken (who invited me on this event) was not there yet, so I met up with my friend who I was with in Banahaw climnb, which was also in the area. Ken arrived at 11 pm, and our group left for Wawa at almost 1 am.
June 9 - Around 2:40 am, we arrived at the jump-off point in Wawa. The weather was rainy, so we bought Ponchos to protect our belongings from getting wet, even though I had a dry bag. At 4:00 am, we started trekking. Mount Susong Dalaga was the first mountain we were going to climb, the lowest of the three mountains in Montalban Trilogy version 2. The trail is forested with some parts that were a bit of an assault, but still manageable. We started to see some day light along the trail, but because of the rain, the weather was gloomy.

The trail going up to the summit of Susong Dalaga is ascending and somewhat ridge-like. We reached the summit around 6:00 am. There was a 360° view from the top, and I can say that Susong Dalaga somewhat like just a hill. We took a group picture before continuing on the trail.

Because it was still raining at that time, the path became extremely muddy and slippery. The group's movement also slowed down as we avoided being slipped, which could potentially cause injury to one of us. We even encountered some trail runners despite the weather conditions.

Rocky terrain going to Mount Lagyo
The initial part of the trail up to Mount Lagyo is characterised by tall and thick grass and a muddy path. As you ascend towards the summit, you will encounter large and sharp rocks. It is important to use gloves on such trails to prevent injuries while gripping and handling these rocks.
Before reaching the summit, there is a shelter-like cave where the group can rest or even have a meal. We took a break here before heading to the summit. At 7:40 am, we reached the summit of Lagyo. The rocks were slippery due to the rain. The terrain was steep and our movement at the Lagyo summit was limited. We didn't stay long at the summit and proceeded to take a group picture. It was cold and windy at the top, so we quickly descended.

According to our guide, the trail to the final mountain, Mount Parawagan, was said to be gentle and easy. Our guide was not mistaken as the trail was indeed easy, especially in sunny weather. However, the path we traversed was extremely muddy. The mud we walked through became deep, so our guides provided us with bamboo poles to help us navigate through it and prevent us from struggling. I had a difficult time on this trail, especially since I was only wearing a sandals. I was at the back of the group, but Ken and one of our guide waited for me to ensure I didn't get lost. After walking for several hours, the muddy path disappeared, and we started to see houses along the way.
We reached a store at a junction where the uphill ascent to Parawagan could be seen, but Ken and I decided to continue on the trail. We reached the summit of Parawagan at 11:40 am. There was no clearing at the summit due to the rainy weather. Here, we ate our packed lunch and rested. After taking a group picture, the group decided to descend.

We arrived back at the Jump-off point at 2:45 pm. Ken and I took a bath, bought pancit canton, had them cooked at the store to eat, and had some small talk. Everyone of us was happy because we finished the hike early and it was still bright when we returned to Greenfield. The event was worthwhile and enjoyable! Montalban Trilogy Version 2, UNLOCKED!
